Dear Fernando

Dear Fernando.

Maybe you won’t ever read this, but my heart is asking me to write this and share it with my readers. It has come, your last race in Formula 1 has finished. And what a race, man. Eleventh, near the points, which would have been your 1900th point. And with an incredible lap in Q1, with a McLaren able to be 17th, you were between the fastest 15. But it has ended. As the “The Doors” song, ‘This is the end…’.

It’s the end of an era. An era where you were the main man. Directly or indirectly, you made history. From that innocent, callow 19 year old kid, who seemed he was going to conquer the F1 world, to a fully grown 37 year old man, who is ready to conquer the motorsport world, to increase his legend.

Let me be a little bit emotional. I want to say you a very big thank you. Thank you, for made me a passionate guy of F1. Thank you for making me shudder in the good and in the bad moments. Thank you for being the guilty of making me a guy who never misses a race, neither before neither now that you retire, it doesn’t matter the time. For being the guilty of making me getting up early on a weekend, for making me staying at night until very late, and for making me start with this blog. For being guilty of making me study to arrive to work in this incredible world, and, who knows, if some day I can work with the future Fernando Alonso as a mechanic.

Your story in F1 has been unbelievable, and although you deserve more titles than you already have, you can be immensely proud of what you have achieved. You have incredible stats, and a lot of drivers would like to have it. But now you have to go away. Go far away, and win. You have a goal to achieve, the Triple Crown, which is only a step away. Go away, and win. But I also demand you that, if you come back to F1, you better win, so you can retire with a third title, the one you deserve.

Thanks champ, and “hasta luego”.

From Sergi, a simple fan.
